How We’re Supporting Student Growth: A Look at Last Year’s Academic Gains
At EastSide Charter School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow, achieve, and thrive. Last year, our students demonstrated just how powerful that belief is when matched with hard work, dedicated teachers, and a supportive community. The academic gains our students made are proof that progress is possible when expectations are high and students are given the right tools and support.
State Test Results That Show Real Progress
EastSide Charter is growing students faster than any school in the state. Our performance on state testing is a clear reflection of that growth:
52% of 8th graders achieved English proficiency, compared to a state average of just 41%.
44% of 8th graders achieved math proficiency, compared to the state average of 25%.
These results are more than numbers; they represent the determination of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the strength of our community. While many schools across Delaware are still working to close gaps, EastSide students are proving that they can compete and succeed at the highest levels.
What’s Driving These Gains?
Targeted Instruction: Small group learning and differentiated teaching ensure every student gets the support they need.
High-Quality Teaching: With a 94% faculty retention rate, our students benefit from consistency and strong relationships with their educators.
STEM Integration: Through the Chemours Community STEM Hub, students experience real-world applications of math and science that make learning more engaging.
Advanced Opportunities: Our APEX Honors Program students achieved 86% proficiency in English and 58% proficiency in math, setting the bar for excellence.
Family Partnership: Parents and guardians work hand-in-hand with teachers to create a community where children feel supported both at home and at school.
Beyond the Test Scores
Success at EastSide isn’t only measured by state testing. Our scholars are excelling in ways that prepare them for bright futures:
Last year’s graduating class earned over $250,000 in scholarships, opening doors to higher education and new opportunities.
Students are developing confidence, leadership skills, and a passion for learning that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
Looking Ahead
We are proud of the progress our students made last year, but we aren’t stopping there. As we begin a new school year, we’re doubling down on what works while continuing to innovate with new strategies and resources. Our focus remains on providing the best possible education for every child who walks through our doors.
At EastSide Charter, student achievement isn’t just a goal — it’s our mission. Together with our families, staff, and community partners, we’re building a brighter future for Wilmington, one student at a time.
